Mandalas decorativas basadas en las iglesias más representativas de Riobamba.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to present a catalog of mandalas based on the most representative churches of Riobamba city. For its development, documentary research from several institutional sources, personal and field research was used, through the techniques of recruitment and observation that led to obtain the necessary information to determine the first point concerning to the election of the most representative churches of Riobamba city. From this result, a photographic record was obtained which allowed the identification of the most important internal and external structural forms and figures of each religious building. After the photographic record, the outstanding forms were abstracted, fitted in a certain type. Descriptive sheets were created with the result of the abstractions, which is based on the laws and compositional categories of graphic design, then proceeded to the visual harmonic strategic placement of the abstractions on circular grids for obtaining the mandalas that were put on a catalog and applications for the decoration of interiors. This compiling catalog of mandalas was obtained as a result, which facilitates the generation of decorative applications, which allows the belonging of citizenship from Riobamba and foreigners over the religious architectural heritage of the city, highlighting the mandalas as a contemporary visual graphic element. It contributes to the fostering of culture and awakens the interest of observation, preservation and appreciation of religious constructions that go unnoticed in everyday life. It is recommended that the authorities promote the catalog and use it on different media, also to graphic design students to use this research as a basis for a deeper analysis.
