Abstract

In the leather tanning laboratory of the Faculty of Animal Science the natural finish in tanned goat skins with tara applying different levels of cationic polyurethane binder was evaluated, the number of experimental units was 24 goat skins, and the results of the physical and Sensory resistance were assessed with a completely randomized simple design. The evaluation of the physical resistance determined the best results to tensile strength (219635 (N / cm2), elongation percentage (70.63%), and dry rub resistance (181.25 cycles), when using 200g of cationic polyurethane binders, as they exceed the quality requirements of the technical standards which serve as reference as IUP 6 and 8 of the Spanish Leather Association. Cationic polyurethane binders homogeneously bond the different layers of the cationic finish especially when the skins are tanned with tara and applying to the finish 200 grams of cationic polyurethane binder giving a soft touch and excellent naturalness (4,75 points), adequate filling (4.75 points); And an excellent touch (4.75 points). The highest profitability was obtained by using 200 grams of cationic polyurethane binder, as the cost - benefit relation was 1.29, which means that for every dollar invested a utility of 29 cents is expected which is interesting mainly because it is an ecological alternative.
