Historieta ilustrada basada en la tradición de los hieleros de Chimborazo.

Abstract

For several years now, it has been believed that there is only one ice-maker in Chimborazo. For this reason, the main aim of this research work is to create an illustrated cartoon through the stories told by the ice-makers, which shows that there are still more people, men and women who live doing this job. By means of a bibliographic and ethnographic research and interviews with the inhabitants of the three known communities where the ice-maker live (La Moya, Rumicruz y Palacio Real), we identified the main characteristics of this trade, the routine that the ice- makers follow on a daily basis to carry out their work, the main reasons why this tradition has been lost over the years and also some history about how this work began in Chimborazo. In addition, through observation sheets, a detailed analysis was made about the lifestyle of the people in these communities, how they live with the ice-makers and how much the interest of young people to learn the trade from their parents and grandparents has been lost. Finally, we used all the information collected to create the three stories that made up the comic strip. With the help of a creative script and a technical script, we defined the stories, the vignettes, the plans and the type of illustration that was later used in the creation if the storyboard and finally the improvement and inking of the comic strip. Thereby, a different and unique profile about the life of Chimborazo´s ice-makers was shown, demonstrating to young people that this tradition is still alive.
