Abstract

The operational analysis of the bus terminal of the canton Baños de Agua Santa and its impact on the city's traffic congestion, is intended to determine the current operational situation of the terminal and its components, as well as the influence of the terminal on the city's traffic congestion. The research was carried out through the application of interviews to the authorities to diagnose the administrative part, surveys were also applied to the users, personnel of the bus operators, drivers and human talent of the terminal, to determine the quality of the service provided by the terminal; The compilation of aspects of the infrastructure and facilities was also carried out, which established the level of compliance of the terminal in these aspects with the regulations and parameters required by the control body; In addition, vehicle flow counts were made at the intersections that border the terminal site to determine its incidence in vehicular congestion, for which the traffic simulator called Synchro was used. Once the information gathering was completed, it was determined that the administration of the terminal is of public-private type, the operation has an offer of routes and frequencies during the week and an over demand of users on weekends and holidays, the infrastructure is adequate for operation, although in some aspects they must be improved, the level of service perceived by users and transport operators is good and that the terminal does not affect the vehicular congestion in the area. Therefore, strategies have been developed that will improve the operation, infrastructure and service provided by the bus terminal. In conclusion, the terminal has a proper functioning of its operating system, although it is recommended that the proposed strategies be applied to improve the operation of the terminal.
