Estrategia para el desarrollo turístico sustentable del cantón Penipe, provincia de Chimborazo, 2017 – 2019.

Abstract

This research was aimed to develop a sustainable tourist development strategy to Penipe canton during 2017. This canton has a participative land-use and development planning process. In its development and land use planning in 2015, the lack of a true planned and articulated intervention in its management model aimed at tourism that is intended to improve the tourist conditions in the territory has been identified. The study starts with the update and validate of the tourist attractions and tourist services inventory which are located in this canton by using the established methodology by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism in 2014, the management of visitor methodological tool as well as the range of opportunities for visitors in protected areas (ROVAP) from Ecuadorian Ministry of Environment. Among the main results of this study, the tourism potential of Penipe canton is identified with 69 tourist attractions and 29 tourist facilities; 19 tourist attractions correspond to the II and III hierarchy. These were used in the technical analyses of scenarios and environments establishing the guidelines or the necessary strategies to achieve a sustainable tourism development in Penipe canton and its present and future generations. It is recommended to apply the management of visitor methodological tool, the range of opportunities for visitors in protected areas (ROVAP) as well as ARGIS Geographic Information System as land-use planning tools not just in tourism, but also in environmental terms as well as in land use regulation.
