Evaluación de la plantación de Eucalyptus globulus Labill (Eucalipto) con fines de manejo en la Hacienda Tunshi-ESPOCH

Abstract

The evaluation of the Eucalyptus globulus Labill plantation carried out in the Tunshi plantation at Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (Higher Education), located 12 km from the city of Riobamba. As a place characterized by its variable conditions: physiography, soil conditions and its management; the need to calculate the growth and productivity of the eucalyptus forest cover was identified with a view to controlling and using it. This was achieved by applying exploratory, descriptive, and interpretative methods to the data collected in the field and the laboratory. By means of stratified sampling with three probes in circular fields using a habitat stand as well as systematic sampling of dasometry informatión. The statiscal analysis with the application of statiscal estimators and the forming of conglomerates determined that at an altitude of 2755 meters above sea level, there was an annual medium increase of 23,86 m year -1 compared to the 2,28 m 3 ha -1 year -1 increase which occurs at an altitude of 2930 meters above sea level. The parameters of altitude, effective depth, and drainage, nitrogen content at surface and boron at an underlying level are growth and productivity determiners of the specie E. globulus Labill in the Tunshi plantation. After having carried out the research, conclusions were drawn in the two defined areas: forestry conservation and forestry use. Finally, the recommendation was made that the universiy´s authorities and the manager of Tunshi plantation should create a management plan in order to use the wood from the habitat stands which have reached the end of their productivity cycle and to maintain those habitat stands which produce a lower yield with the goal of protecting the ground, restoring of degraded areas and generating a microclimate for the surrounding environment.
