Diseño de un plan de manejo de residuos sólidos para la cabecera cantonal del cantón Guamote - Chimborazo

Abstract

The design of the Environmental Management Plan for solid waste is carried out for the canton of Guamote in the province of Chimborazo. In this study, the analytical method is applied, since it allows to study in parts; the existing problems due to the poor management of solid waste, to later analyze each one of them as an independent study. To this end, an initial environmental diagnosis (baseline) is carried out to determine the causes and possible solutions to this problem. For this study, a random sampling by second level clusters is carried out, in which the cantonal capital is divided into its eight neighborhoods to determine the number of families to be sampled and surveyed. The calculation includes the proportional determination of the number of surveys and samples to be executed according to the number of inhabitants by zones and properties of the canton, from which representative samples of solid waste were obtained, which are collected four days a week during the month of January 2013. Solid waste is collected and weighed to determine the Per Capita Production (PPC) in kg/inhab/day. It is then sorted according to its components to calculate the volume and the loose and compacted density of the waste. After carrying out the indicated procedures, the results show a PPC of 0.601 kg/inhab/day, composed mainly of organic waste, with an average of 56.78%. The implementation of this Environmental Management Plan for Solid Waste will contribute to reduce the environmental impacts caused by solid waste in the canton of Guamote.
