Familia tipográfica basada en la morfología del barrio Guápulo del cantón Quito.

Abstract

The objective of this investigation was to design a typographic family, based on the morphological features of the Guápulo neighborhood of the Quito canton. The typographic family was used in the creation of postcards that identify the relevant sectors of the Guápulo neighborhood. The method was inductive-deductive. Sketches were made, so Sketches were modified to improve their readability. The typographic family originated through the development of observation cards in the relevant sectors and with an architectural, artistic, or traditional load, in the card the photography is detailed, the specific form that is used as a base, the experimentation of the form making use of the interrelation of forms such as union, intersection, penetration, etc. In addition, each shape and letter designed is generated through the tertiary harmonic system, the upper and lower box establishes its measurements through the tertiary harmonic system, that is, the height of the x, ascending, descending, and baseline is vertical lines that correspond to the tertiary harmonic system. The typographic family was created using vectorial software in which each letter was redrawn through nodes or anchor points that give rise to the shapes, it was transferred to typographic software that saved the file in .ttf extension, (True Type Font), which is an extension that can be installed on any computer. The typographic family was installed and used in a computer, thus the existence of the typographic family in its different variants, light, regular and bold, was verified. It is concluded that by taking as a basis the morphological features analyzed in the Guápulo neighborhood, the creation of curved and organic lines was evidenced. It is recommended to use the typographic family with a minimum of 14 points, its use is limited to poems, headlines, or short texts.
