Seguimiento farmacoterapéutico a pacientes pediátricos polimedicados con discapacidad intelectual del Hospital Pediátrico Alfonso Villagómez Román de Riobamba

Abstract

The aim of this research work was to apply a pharmacotherapeutic follow-up to polymedicated pediatric patients with intellectual disability at the Hospital Pediátrico Alfonso Villagómez Román in Riobamba, using a qualitative-descriptive method with a prospective-cross sectional study design. The Plataforma de Registro de Atención en Salud (PRAS) was used to identify the polymedicated pediatric patients with intellectual disabilities, having a sample of 10 patients who attended periodic check-ups with their treating physician. As a result, a total of 11 negative outcomes associated with medication (NOM) were obtained, where those related to medication safety and 10 possible drug-drug interactions were prevalent, being the most frequent those of moderate degree. A manual was also designed and adapted to the reality of this pediatric hospital and to the patients, based on the manual de atención farmacéutica proposed in 2021 by the Ministerio de Salud Pública through AGREEMENT No. AC-00028-2021 and Dader method, in order to identify the negative outcomes associated with medications (NOM), possible drug-drug interactions and therapeutic adherence through the application of the Morisky-Green test. It was concluded that, within the therapeutic adherence, it was identified that 30% of the patients complied adequately with the medical prescription and with pharmacotherapeutic follow-up this value increased to 90%. It is recommended to implement the therapeutic follow-up service to improve not only the patient's response to their treatment but also their quality of life and that of their caregivers.
