Abstract

A solid waste management plan was designed for the Municipal Market of the Esmeraldas Canton, with the purpose of contributing to the improvement of the health, safety and environmental conditions that are present in it. For this, it was necessary to carry out a baseline survey of the conditions of solid waste management. For this, field observation techniques, interviews and surveys were applied. Subsequently, a simple random sampling was carried out to qualitatively and quantitatively characterize the solid waste generated, here it was necessary to use 200L containers, a scale, a camera and a notebook. With this information, an Environmental Impact Study was developed, which allowed to identify the positive and negative impacts created by the generation of solid waste, the latter served as a tool to identify the positive conditions to be potentiated and negative to be remedied in the Management Plan. . Based on this analysis, it was determined that 61% of the waste generated is of organic vegetable types (7,977.27 Kg/week), 17.7% is organic animal waste "meat" (2,320.45 Kg/week), 14.6% are mixed waste (1,916.81 Kg/week) and 6.51% are organic animal "shellfish" (850.00 Kg/week), a PPC rate of 0.198 Kg/person/day. The solid waste management plan shows mitigation and prevention measures that are feasible to execute, which will produce important environmental and economic benefits that will serve for their livelihood; so its execution is recommended.
