Abstract

The aim of this research is to improve the transportation system through a road safety audit in order to reduce the traffic accidents in Guano. This study is based on the “Vision Zero” Campaign, which aims to mitigate traffic accidents as much as possible to protect the life and people's health. That is why, the research has a quantitative approach, allowing us to analyze the current state of the roads in relation to the road safety. Once the data was analyzed, different problems could be found such as: lack of horizontal signage, poor vertical signage and lack of road culture. To solve the first two problems, it was proposed to redesign vertical and horizontal signage to help us prevent deaths and injuries due to traffic accidents. In addition to this, it, a road safety campaign was carried out focused on students in first grades of (Educación General Básica) Basic General Education, with the highest risk of accidents, seeking to create a road culture in people from the youngest ages, teaching them to respect the laws. of traffic in this way reduce the statistics of deaths and injuries due to collisions. It is concluded that, by redesigning horizontal and vertical signage on the main streets in Guano city, the aim is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and in the long term reach the number of zero traffic accidents. To obtain these results, it is recommended that the authorities try to redesign the horizontal and vertical signage in order to reduce traffic accidents and improve mobility in Guano.
