Abstract

The objective of this research was to design tourist facilities for the Humboldt Route, Quito canton, Pichincha province. The methodology consisted of gathering information about the territory and analyzing the elements of the tourism system. The demand profile was determined through a bibliographic review of consumption trends of the Quito canton. The graphic and conceptual design of the tourist facilities was carried out, detailing the characteristics in addition to the implementation and maintenance costs in a matrix. It was established promotion and marketing strategies, and an investment budget was drawn up. For the socio-environmental study and the legal-administrative feasibility, the environmental impact was evaluated using the Lázaro Lagos matrix then the legal figure was defined. As a result, in the situational diagnosis, it was identified that the tourist potential of the study area is high since it contains tourist attractions of hierarchy II. The tourist plant of the territory is suitable and in good condition. The demand analysis identified that the average daily expenditure of visitors arriving in Quito is 60 dollars per person. For the conceptual and graphic design of the tourist facilities, it was determined that the implementation of 27 signage, three handrails, two rest stations, and the construction of an interpretation center following the standardized norms of the PANE (2011) is necessary. The Lázaro Lagos matrix allowed us to identify that the project is environmentally viable. For the legal part, it was proposed the creation of a tourism association based on the Law of Popular and Solidarity Economy. It was concluded that it is possible to implement the project. It is recommended to promote alliances with public and private institutions so that they invest in the improvement of services and the implementation of tourist facilities.
