Estudio del uso del transporte público urbano en la ciudad de Riobamba con enfoque de género

Abstract

The thesis entitled "Study about the use of urban public transportation in Riobamba city with a gender approach” was intended to generate the non-existent data that contemplates mobility patterns of women in Riobamba city as well as identify specific security needs for which they are violated. The study began with a bibliographic review and the application of interviews to technicians in charge of urban public transport in the city in order to verify the current situation of this sector. The application of mobility surveys with gender segregation parameters directed to the population of Riobamba city allowed to know the use of this means of transportation in relation to the gender approach. As results, it was verified that the urban public transportation in Riobamba city is provided by both conventional buses and taxis. To collect the information, surveys about departures and destination were applied, quality of service, modal choice and passenger aphorisms although these lack of a gender approach or even an analysis of results around this factor. After collecting the information and the analysis of results provided by the surveys, it was verified that the main reason women use the public transportation system is due to household needs with 86% of the women surveyed, showing that 68% and 56% are more vulnerable to suffer harassment and robbery in vehicles that provide urban public transport service. In this way, some guidelines are established around the gender approach to improve the urban public transportation service, therefore, it is recommended to apply this study in order to satisfy the main needs that afflict this vulnerable sector of a society.
