Intervención farmacéutica y educativa en pacientes con cataratas del Centro Quirúrgico Ambulatorio FIBUSPAM.

Abstract

This degree work main aim was to carry out a pharmaceutical and educational intervention for patients with cataracts at the Paul Martel International Good Samaritan Foundation Ambulatory Surgical Center (FIBUSPAM), for this purpose, a registry based on the medication errors found in March and April 2019 was prepared. For the pharmaceutical interventions (PI) execution, a database of health problems was carried out considering: adverse reactions, non-compliance with therapy, administration, inadequate duration, and incomplete indication, to subsequently resolve or prevent them according to the case, through pharmaceutical intervention (PI). 235 pharmaceutical interventions were performed in a total of 100 patients with cataracts, distributed as it is depicted: 66.8% focused on the doctor's prescription, 29.4% oriented to the drug administration and 3.8% oriented towards the medicine. The oriente PI prescriptions were resolved with their amendment due to the omission of important parameters such as duration of treatment, as for the medication administration, a solution could be given with the active dispensation and reinforced with the educational plan designed towards patients; the intervention directed to the medicine was referred to the doctor due to the presence of an adverse reaction. The educational plan could be evaluated through surveys validated by expert judgment, which were applied before and after the educational intervention, thanks to the multivariate analysis applied, it was known that there is a significant change in the knowledge of patients based on time. The active participation of the pharmacist in the therapy of all patients attending the ophthalmology service of the FIBUSPAM Ambulatory Surgical Center or any health care center is recommended, emphasizing on the proper use of medications.
