Abstract

Neurocysticercosis is the most important parasitic helminth pathology of the central nervous system caused by the taenia solium cestode larvae, in our time this disease is quite frequent due to the high demand for swine, which in this case is prepared with poor sanitary hygienic measures, It is also important to mention the inadequate management of excreta in communities located in the rural sector bordering our province, This pathology is endemic in developing countries, this disease diagnosis is based on clinic trials, in addition to laboratory tests and imaging screening, in our country the treatment is based on anthelmintic drugs, corticosteroids, analgesics and anticonvulsants depending on the symptomatology this parasite produces in the human being. The study of a 57-year-old patient with no relevant medical history was undertaken who started with a 3-year history of headaches for which she was self-medicated with painkillers trying to reduce her discomfort, with the passage of time the headache has not diminish with the patient painkillers self-consumption. which is exacerbated by presenting nausea accompanied by vomiting, seizures and paresis in lower limbs, which is why she is admitted to Riobamba General Hospital where, by performing a computerized axial tomography of the skull, the presence of cerebral cysticercoids is evident in the central nervous system subsequently, treatment for the pathology begins with the aim of improving the patient life quality. As months go by, the patient does not comply with the treatment plan, attenuating the symptoms and showing serious signs of decline in her health. Therefore, this leads the patient to have multiple re-admissions to the aforementioned health home.
