Endocarditis bacteriana sobre válvula protésica

Abstract

The objetive of the present study was to describe the clinical case of Bacterial Endocarditis on Prosthetic Valve, in a male patient of 61 years of age with a history of severe aortic stenosis corrected with mechanical valvular replacement, who entered the Puyo General Hospital, his initial symptoms were high fever and general clinical status, the patient was assessed by the Cardiology department, blood cultures were indicated where Staphylococcus Aureus was reported, transthoracic echocardiography was performed, and a paravalvular leak was diagnosed. The parameters that allowed the diagnosis of bacterial endocarditis were met. prosthetic valve, antibiotic treatment was started and transferred to a health home of greater complexity for the management of the infectious process and possible replacement of valvular prostheses. The patient finished with the medical treatment with the favourable evolution and was obtained, on the part of the cardiovascular surgery, no other valvular substitution was carried out. It is concluded that bacterial endocarditis on the prosthetic valve is a rare disease diagnosed, that occurs after the invasion of microorganisms in the intracardiac tissue adjacent to a biological or mechanical substitute of a cardiac valve. Bacterial endocarditis is a complex pathology that, for its diagnosis and definitive treatment, requires a multidisciplinary approach with specialities such as clinical cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, imaging, microbiology with experience in the management of endocarditis.
