Factores socio-culturales en la adherencia al tratamiento de la Diabetes Mellitus Hospital IESS Latacunga septiembre 2018 – febrero 2019

Abstract

The objective of the present thesis paper was to identify the socio-cultural factors that influence the medication adherence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It is a cross-sectional descriptive study, which was carried out in the IESS Basic Hospital, belonging to Latacunga city, Cotopaxi province. An observable universe and sample of 184 patients were used. Who were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and hospitalized in the Internal Medicine Service. Three Types of surveys were conducted to identify various factors whose influence directly affects the level of medication treatment compliance. Once the analysis of the various data obtained was made, it was possible to determine that the most representative factors in adherence to treatment are sex, age, and educational level, the latter being the most influential since lack of schooling can justify the patient's little understanding of the disease and the different indications and recommendations given by the specialist when the treatment is established. Based on all of the above, it was concluded that there are several factors at both individual and collective level clearly observed in the patient's medical record that directly influence the adherence to treatment that is shown by inpatients of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
